Family Literacy Program

First Family Learning Project

In August 2005, we held our first Family Learning Program music workshop with parents and children in the Starfish (Kindergarten) class.

This workshop was led by Alisa Peres, who has been providing music enrichment programming to the children of Saint Vincent’s Day Home for many years. The workshop was conducted in English and Spanish, and included reading, music, and movement to help parents and guardians understand the importance and sheer fun of these activities as pre-literacy strategies.

Thanks to our relationship with Barnes and Noble bookstore, we were able to purchase books at a hearty discount and all parents/guardians received a free copy of the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar in the language of their choice. We also sent them home with a full-color song book to share with their children.
