Sunday, September 27 was a beautiful day – perfect weather for the “Back to School “Annual Brunch. Nearly 200 people stopped by to enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet, generously donated by Scott’s Seafood Restaurant in Jack London Square. Thanks to Mr. Ray Gallagher, owner, and his competent team for preparing food that keeps our supporters coming back each year.
Members of the Events Committee worked hard and their efforts showed. Beautiful floral arrangements in simple mason jars served as table centerpieces. Our staff did an outstanding job of creating clever bulletin boards reflecting our “Giving Tree” theme. Students of the music department at Bishop O’Dowd kept our guests entertained with their Cool Jazz sounds.
We have many people to thank including our supporters, donors, Board, staff and new friends. We were able to raise over $50,000 to support the Sister Ann Maureen Murphy Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in loving memory of Sr. Anne Maureen Murphy to keep with her wishes to establish a fund to fill the gap between what a family can afford any state assistance, and the cost of tuition at Saint Vincent’s Day Home.
As a donor, you may specify that your support goes directly to this special Scholarship Fund. This will ensure that as many children as possible can attend the Day Home. This is particularly important when short-term events could cause a major disruption in a child’s life. In times such as these, the children especially benefit from the safe and loving environment at Saint Vincent’s Day Home.
Please consider making a donation to the Sister Ann Maureen Scholarship Fund and help Oakland’s more vulnerable families continue to receive the support, stability and education provided at Saint Vincent’s Day Home.
