On June 18, 2008, the Day Home welcomed our first visit from Bread & Roses, a Marin County-based non-profit “dedicated to uplifting the human spirit by providing free, live, quality entertainment.”
The children were certainly uplifted by the performance of juggler Frank Olivier, who delighted us all with feats of daring. He started small, juggling only two balls, but quickly worked up to a total of seven. Later, he incorporated a unicycle and even some of the children into his act, even “juggling” one of the children from our Teddy Bears class!
He finished his act by climbing atop a 5-foot-tall unicycle, and juggling flaming torches. Don’t worry – he warned our children not to try any of his act at home.
Founded in 1974, Bread & Roses brings entertainment to a wide variety of underserved children and adults of all ages. Opportunities to experience live, quality performances by talented artists are few and far between for the majority of our children. One of our goals is to involve our children in a wide variety of performing arts that they would not otherwise be exposed to. We are so grateful that Bread & Roses has partnered with us to bring these experiences to our children, and we are looking forward to their next visit! |
