Teacher, Floater, and Substitute Positions Available Immediately

Saint Vincent’s Day Home is currently hiring full-time permitted teachers, floaters, and substitutes for our year-round program.

The Day Home provides a quality, comprehensive Early Learning programs and a licensed Kindergarten for children ages 2 through 6 in the heart of West Oakland.  Our approach to learning is play-based and supported by the High Scope Preschool Curriculum.

Since 1911, the Day Home’s mission has remained to offer comprehensive educational programs and nurturing care for children from families needing the greatest support.

We are currently seeking knowledgeable teachers who demonstrate a passion for working with young children and who are committed to providing quality care and enriching learning experiences.   Teachers should have a strong understanding of child development and be culturally responsive.  A successful candidate will be experienced at developing engaging learning opportunities and in establishing and maintaining a nurturing environment for children to explore and learn.  Applicants should be comfortable working collaboratively, demonstrate emotional intelligence, skillfully communicate and resolve conflict, and be fluent in English.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                    

Job responsibilities include the following: 

  • Develop and implement age and developmentally appropriate learning experiences, supported by observed individual needs of children.
  • Assess children using the Desired Result Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessment tool.
  • Effective and diligent supervision of children at all times.
  • Ability to work cohesively in a team-teaching structure.
  • A committed desire to make a difference in the lives of the children and families served.
  • Model and implement appropriate personal behavior and instructional practices that support and nurture the development of the whole child.
  • Varied work shift to meet the needs of the program.

Teachers are responsible for the enforcement of Licensing Regulations set forth by the Department of Social Services, the Early Education and Support Division (EESD) Funding Terms and Conditions, and the California Department of Education’s Title 5 Regulations regarding Safety and Program Quality.


REQUIREMENTS      

 Minimum requirements:

  • 12 units of early child education (ECE) or child development (CD) coursework (including units in the following core classes: Child/Human Growth and Development; Child, Family and Community; Programs/Curriculum)
  • Possess or be eligible for an Associate Teacher Permit, or higher.

An Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and Teacher Permit, or higher is preferred.

Consideration will be given to applicants who have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with young children and who will enroll and pass ECE/CD courses to advance their knowledge and skills.


 SALARY  

$17.00 – $22.50/hr

Commensurate with experience, Child Development Permit, and Early Childhood Education coursework
