An Evening Celebrating Two Shining Stars

Friday, March 10, 2017 – Friends, staff, and the families of Saint Vincent’s Day Home came together to celebrate two of its brightest stars – Mrs. Wilma Germany and The Warriors Community Foundation.

Guests arrived to a reception venue that few have had the opportunity to see – the inside of the Golden State Warriors practice facility.  The extensive hallway displays larger-than-life replicas of past Warrior legends with a large outdoor overview of the East Bay.

Old and new friends gathered and greeted one another with hugs, smiles, and jubilant conversation – over beautiful floral arrangements and a stunning backdrop of a mid-March sunset. Guests were charmed by the Day Home Children proudly singing the ABC song and “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”

Kate proudly spoke of the importance of quality early childhood education, the mission of the Day Home, and our appreciation for all those who remember our children.

Jose Gordon and Zach Cohen of the Warriors Community Foundation accepted the Children’s Choice Award award for the Foundation’s dedication to underprivileged children in the Bay Area.

Former Day Home parent and board member, Wilma Germany was honored for her commitment to the children and her exemplary service, which has allowed the Day Home to help thousands of families transform.  Wilma’s eloquent words were met by the entire room rising to their feet in her honor.

The night ended with a live auction of a basketball signed by the Golden State Warriors 2016-17 team. Auctioneer Lorna Padia Markus managed an all-out bidding war between two close friends – how fun to watch! The Warriors Community Foundation jumped right in and offered us another signed basketball mid-auction.

Kate Shaheed closed the evening by thanking all who came— reminding our friends that without their help our mission of providing quality education to underprivileged youth in the East Bay would not be possible. Thank you to all who came and spent an evening supporting the Day Home’s children and families. You are each a shining star.
