Ty-Licia Hooker is a leading “under 30” educator and advocate for youth empowerment. In 2010, as a University of the Pacific student, she co-founded Student Success and Leadership Academy, which will complete its 10th summer program to empower underserved youth to lead the change in their community. In 2015, after several years as a classroom teacher, she became the Executive Director of Boost! West Oakland, a volunteer-staffed tutoring program serving 80 children at nearby Lafayette and Martin Luther King Elementary Schools.

The first in her family to graduate from college, Ty-Licia understands the importance of education as a tool for healing and liberation. Her advocacy has been recognized locally and nationally by BET, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! and Procter and Gamble’s My Black is Beautiful. Ty-Licia is a contributing writer for “Lean In For Graduates,” a best-selling practical guide to beginning a successful career by Sheryl Sandberg. She is also a noted speaker, sharing her experiences of women’s empowerment, problem-solving in education, and community building with a wide range of audiences.
