A Wonderful Evening at the 2016 Children’s Choice Awards Dinner

It was a special evening as Saint Vincent’s Day Home supporters, alumni, staff, past staff and sponsors gathered at the Claremont Club & Spa to award the 2016 Children’s Choice Award to our Executive Director, Corinne M. Mohrmann, and celebrate her 40 years of service. It was a Ruby Jubilee to behold, fit for its honoree and just as significant for the children and families of the Day Home who benefit from the event proceeds.

Ruby colored lights lit the walls around the Ballroom where friends from the Day Home reunited and enjoyed the chance to share memories with Corinne.

The Saint Vincent’s Day Home staff surprised Corinne by resurrecting a 20-year old performance of Sister Act. As the curtains on the stage rolled back, a choir of past and present Day Home staff dressed as nuns revealed themselves and broke out in soulful songs from “Sister Act.”

The emcee for the evening was CNN correspondent, Sara Sidner, who kept the evening lively. Children from the Day Home sang for Corinne and afterwards, Sister Joan Derry, representing the Day Home’s founders, Sisters of the Holy Family, led a blessing for Corinne.

After dinner, a special video narrated by Hon. Carol Corrigan gave an inside look at Corinne’s life and the broad impact of her work. The video chronicled Corinne’s struggles growing up and the realization of her vision to help low-income children and families through the Day Home.

Corinne was presented with the Diocesan Medal of Merit from the Bishop Michael Barber of the Diocese of Oakland and the Saint Vincent’s Day Home 2016 Children’s Choice Award.

To commemorate her 40 year tenure as the Day Home’s Executive Director, Corinne received a portrait of the Day Home commissioned from Oakland painter, John Paul Marcelo, and an original stained glass window from the Sisters of the Holy Family chapel. Corinne thanked everyone for their support over the years and asked for their continued support after she retires at the end of March.

The night ended with desserts and dancing in the Ballroom as Corinne received a wealth of much deserved appreciation, hugs and even a line dancing lesson.
