We are excited to host the annual Children’s Choice Awards dinner on Friday, March 15. This year, we are recognizing Chris Nguon from Lincoln Families, one of Oakland’s most influential advocates for children and families.
About Our Honoree
Chris Nguon is an exceptional public service professional hailing from West Oakland, who has had a transformative impact on his community. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of California-Berkeley and has worked tirelessly in various roles in community-based programs across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Chris has earned a reputation as a true champion of the community through his outstanding work in developing programs that improve the lives of children and families.
As the Associate Director of Community-Based Programs at Lincoln Families, Chris has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities by embodying cultural competency, community voice, and individual and collective healing. Through his collaborative efforts with community partners, such as Saint Vincent’s Day Home, he has achieved remarkable results for the Neighborhood Ready for Schools initiative. This partnership with First 5 Alameda County provides families with effective tools and resources to prepare their children for kindergarten.
Aside from his work, Chris is also a passionate fan of sports. As a former professional sportswriter, he has made valuable contributions to various multimedia outlets such as the Oakland Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle. His love for his alma mater, McClymonds High, has inspired him to co-author two books that showcase the school’s historic influence on West Oakland and the entire country. Chris’ exceptional leadership qualities, passion, and commitment to improving the lives of children and families serve as an inspiration to us all.
