What a jam-packed day of fun! The annual visit from the Claremont Club & Spa, a Fairmont Hotel, coincided with our annual Family Celebration. The carnival this year was extra spectacular. The Claremont staff rented 3 fairy-tale themed jumpy houses, layered our playground walkways with golden “brick roads,” and set out games, face-painting and crown-making stations. Thank you, Claremont, for the fun! Your annual festivities always bring huge smiles and great joy to our children.
After lunch and a nap, the annual Family Celebration began. Family Celebration recognizes the children and families that will be leaving for new schools and gives those joining the Day Home in the coming school year a chance to get to know each other.
Leaders from local organizations, the West Oakland Health Council and West Oakland Public Library, generously offered their time to talk with parents about services offered within our community. CalFresh brought fresh produce for a mini farmers market and Stomper, the mascot for the A’s, stopped by thanks to our friends at the Oakland Athletics Community Fund.
The Prescott Circus Theatre also performed lively circus acts, inspiring and reminding our children that age does not determine possibility. The night ended over the sharing of pizza and an overwhelming sense of joy in our close-knit community.
This day was made possible by the Oakland Literacy Coalition; thank you for the generous grant to bring wonderful storyteller, Pat, provide books for the children and food for the event.
Finally, thank you to our amazing Day Home librarian, Kristi, for spending months organizing our book selection so that every child could take the book of their choice home. We appreciate and you all!
