As October unfolded, Saint Vincent’s Day Home school was filled with festive excitement and meaningful activities. We eagerly prepared for our annual Harvest Festival Parade, where our children proudly marched around in their costumes. The classrooms were alive with seasonal activities like painting pumpkins, coloring bats, and exploring the beauty of fall. With a memorable field trip to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, October was a month of learning, creativity, and joy. As the crisp air set in and the leaves began to change, we looked forward to the warmth and excitement this season brought to our community.
October Highlights
Dorothy Xiao retires after 24 years of service.
After more than two decades remarkable dedication and leadership, Dorothy is stepping into a well-deserved retirement. Serving as the head of our finance department, Dorothy’s unwavering commitment and strategic insight have been instrumental in maintaining the fiscal health and stability of Saint Vincent’s Day Home. Her legacy is one of precision, excellence, and a steadfast dedication to the mission of supporting our children and families.
Dorothy’s journey began with a BS degree from San Francisco State University, which laid the groundwork for her successful career in financial management and strategic planning. Her expertise has not only strengthened our organization but also inspired those around her, setting an exceptional standard for future finance leaders.
Outside of her work with us, Dorothy is an avid traveler with a curiosity that has taken her around the world, exploring new cultures and cuisines. We know she’ll continue to bring the same spirit of adventure and joy to this new chapter.
Thank you, Dorothy, for your incredible contributions, friendship, and dedication. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you all the best in your new adventures!
What’s on the shelves at the Day Home library in October.
Our dedicated volunteer librarian, Ms. Kristi was out of commission for a little while. However, we had the wonderful Ms. Esther step in to manage the library and assist teachers who need help finding materials.
In the library we have displays for Fall and Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month. In addition, there was a display of books about Halloween, Día de los Muertos, and Diwali.
With a blunt of Fall-themed books, Day Home children and family had their pick of the crop. The library has books on Weather & Seasons—perfect for teaching about the noticeable changes in temperature and colors during Fall. This is a great time for preschoolers to start noticing the concept of seasons. and because every season is a good time to understand emotions, there were two tubs of books about Feelings. Here’s a tip for you: kids seem to love Todd Parr’s books.
A day at the Bay Area Discovery Museum.
The Starfish and Dolphins classes enjoyed an exciting field trip to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. This immersive experience allowed our Pre-K and Kindergarten students to explore hands-on exhibits designed to ignite their curiosity and creativity.
From interactive STEM stations to outdoor exploration areas, the children embraced each activity with enthusiasm. This special outing provided a memorable learning experience, allowing our young explorers to build teamwork skills, expand their imaginations, and make joyful memories with their classmates.
Harvest festival was fun for all.
Our annual Harvest Festival was a lively celebration filled with joy and community spirit! Students paraded in creative, fun costumes spreading smiles, and excitement. The festival included autumn-themed activities and a jumper, making it a memorable event for all.
Families and staff came together to enjoy the festivities, which highlighted the warmth of the season and our vibrant community. We look forward to continuing this cherished tradition in the years to come.
